Marketing in the Age of Google: Your Online Strategy Is Your Business Strategy (by Vanessa Fox) deals primarily with understanding and implementing the power of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) into business marketing and website creation. Since my husband works for an SEO company and I do some marketing work and freelance content creation, this book was highly relevant to the business we encounter on a daily basis. Beyond that, this book deals with an important subject for anyone who “needs to be found” online, whether for a church, a personal website, an online business, or a brick-and-mortar-only business.

While some of the content is outdated since the book’s publication, many of the basics hold true, and the need to be “found” exists for anyone trying to put content on the web. There was a lot I learned from in this book, some that was confusing or boring, and the final portion seemed to be the best in basic explanation of SEO. This is a great survey for anyone curious about SEO, even if they see no value in intersecting with the strategies presented here.

Beyond an overview, Marketing in the Age of Google also provides a number of helpful resources, whether the reader is a beginner, setting up a website, or works in the field of SEO. SEO is often overlooked in business looking to grow and market themselves, and this book unlocks some of the misconceptions about what SEO is and why it is important.
