Justus is now 21 days old! Hard to believe it’s already been three weeks; hard to believe it’s only been three weeks.
He now weighs 11 lbs., 8 oz., and we’re getting into a bit of a momentary routine. He had a couple of rather fussy days earlier this week (mostly tummy pains, I think), but has been a contented little guy to finish up his third week. He still sleeps a good bit, yet I still find myself quite busy with him. Probably because we’re enjoying holding him so much, even when he’s sleeping. 🙂
When he was born, neither of us thought, “Oh, he looks like his mommy,” or “he looks like his daddy.” We did think he resembled both girls as newborns, but with softer features. Now, he seems to look a lot like Hana Kate did as a baby, especially when he smiles. Unfortunately, I don’t yet have a good picture of that to show the comparison, but hopefully as he starts to smile a lot more over the next few weeks, my camera and his smiles will cross paths more often.
Sadly, he seems to have pretty sensitive skin, and if his skin touches something washed with fragranced detergent, it seems to exacerbate his baby acne or make him break out in random spots. It seems to only be cosmetic and not to bother him, though.
The girls continue to be smitten with him. The other night, Hana Kate even had Daniel write in her journal that her favorite thing that day was “talking to Justus.” 🙂 She’s a good helper, and is especially eager to help with anything she can having to do with baby. She has also requested that we have another baby, specifically another boy. That way, she says, she can ride beside Justus in the van and Eden will also be able to have a baby to ride beside. 😉
Eden loves to get really close to him and talk to him, and he unfortunately got his first head bump from her today. He was asleep and didn’t cry; when I pointed out to her what she’d done, though, she spent rather lengthy moment crying very hard (which I was then afraid would wake him up). Her woeful sorrow then prompted Hana Kate to cry…I am quite certain they’ve spent more time and energy crying in the past three weeks than has their brother.
My friend Ashlyn came over today and took some special pictures of Justus, including the pictures shown above. Not only is she a skilled photographer, but she has some very creative skills in developing Photoshop actions. Check out her shop, Bellevue Avenue. (I’ve used her actions in editing almost all of the DSLR photos of Justus that have appeared on this blog so far.)
