The Food Book, Please!

March 22, 2011

Hana Kate: “Can I have another snack? I would like some cookies.”
Me: “We don’t have any cookies made.”
HK: “We do. Daddy bought some.”
Me: “No, I don’t think he did. I didn’t see any.” (I have bronchitis, and on Sunday Daniel took the girls to the store to pick my prescription…and a few other things.)
Hana Kate: “Yes, he did. He did buy some.”
Me: “Okay, I’ll go check with Daddy (assuming he would confirm me with the same answer).”
Me: “Oh. Yes, Daddy did buy some cookies. 🙂 He will bring you some.”

Before her rest time on Monday.
Me: “Do you need anything else before rest time?”
Hana Kate: “I need a food book, please.”

Yes, she read a cookbook during rest time. Indeed, she did. (Speaking of, “indeed” is another word she’s been using lately.)

During rest time: “Mommy, I really need a snack, please. I am so very really, really hungry.

After her rest time: “I need some chocolate, Mommy. Do you need some chocolate, Mommy?”

Methinks the child is on a growing spurt.

And what has Eden been saying about food?
In order to tell me she wanted some frozen peas, she put together two words she can say:
“Yuum!!!” “Balls” “Yuuum!!! Balls!!!!”
Me: “Do you want peas?”
Eden: “Yummm!!!” (big smile).

The “food book” story is too cute! When my baby boy was about 18 months old, we were reading books together. I would get one of his faavorites out to read and he would say “no, no” and push it away. He kept saying “bite-bite book? bite-bite book?”. I couldn’t figure out what he wanted until he slid out of my lap and retrieved a cookbook from my shelf and returned very proud and eager to read his “bite-bite book”. He has just turned 2years ols a couple weeks ago and still will choose a cookbook to “read” at story time over any of his books! 🙂

Cute! I guess for kids who love food, it could be as exciting as looking through a toy catalog! 🙂
