Here’s a recipe I came up with for making chips out of leftover bread:
- 2 Loaves of Bread (softer, white breads work best)
- 1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
- 1/4 cup sugar
- ~2 tablespoons cinnamon
Trim crusts off of sliced bread, and flatten bread slice with a rolling pin (for best results, make sure there is a picture of your child playing in the background 😉 ).
Cut the flattened slices into smaller pieces.
Reserve small pieces in a bowl.
Melt butter, and dissolve sugar in. Add cinnamon and mix together. Pour mixture into bowl with bread pieces (don’t pour directly onto the bread, or the bread will absorb too much of the butter), and toss bread so that all is evenly coated with butter mixture.
Spread evenly over a baking sheet, and bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes, or until crisp and slightly browned.
Makes 4 to 6 servings
The chips taste/feel similar to pita chips, and you’d never know it started out as a loaf of bread!
This is what worked for me–I’d love to know if anyone else had done this before or has a better recipe!
I hope to attempt a salty seasoned chip sometime soon, but for the moment, I’m taking a break from bread! 🙂
