Most of my heroes are dead…and have been for many years. And the few that are living have an average age of probably at least 60. But there is one hero of mine who is very close in age to me. In fact, I have the privilege of seeing him every day–he’s my husband.
So what has my husband done to win such a coveted spot amongst these few elite?
Could it be the fact that just this week he cleaned out our main sewage line after it spewed its horrid contents over the entirety of our bathroom? (Definitely deserves some sort of an award!)
Could it be because he has one of the best work ethics of anyone I know?
Could it be because he was willing to take on something he hadn’t done before and transform a hole in the attic from this (this picture was actually taken a good bit into the project)…
to this?
Could it be because he managed (by God’s grace alone) to go to school full-time with the maximum graduate load and work…and still spend time with his pregnant wife?
Maybe the fact that he took care of laundry, cleaning, and housekeeping the entire first week after our daughter was born?
Or maybe it’s his ability to just have fun together?
No.
What makes Daniel my hero is his walk with God. And it is his walk with God that makes all those other things possible to be lived out in his life. I am daily rebuked by Daniel’s faithful commitment to maintaining his relationship with his Savior and to living a faithful life. It is his spiritual walk that allows him to take steps of obedience and faith that the world would call “foolish.” It is his commitment to the Word of God that holds him steadfast to God’s commands and to endure mockery from the world. It is his love for God that keeps his love for me and Hana Kate in second place.
I am not so naive to think my husband has reached sinless perfection. Nor am I foolish enough to think that he is not susceptible to temptation and the attacks of Satan and sin. But I do know this–I am blessed beyond measure to have the husband I have. And as his wife, I have the heavy responsibility of praying for him, loving him, and making it easy for him to grow in his walk with God.
Daniel’s prayer is that he will walk with God like his father does and Grandpa Johnson did–he admires them most for their faithfulness no matter the harvest they saw or trials they faced. And that is our prayer–that God would allow us to stay faithful.
Happy Valentines Day, Daniel! I love you!

Sweet blessings.
Beautiful post! And beautiful baby! You are a very blessed young woman.
As a side note….I liked your pic of you and your DH at the WILDS. It brings back lots of memories. I’m a good bit older than you (almost 35 with 4 children) but WAY back when I was in high school (local Christian school) we took yearly trips to the WILDS. I didn’t appreciate it back then, but oh what a wonderful place!
Wow, this is a beautiful post. You are blessed beyond measure and what a beauty to read the words of a loving wife that admires her husband, her man of God. May your marriage be blessed for many years to come and may you enjoy peace, love and happiness that only God can give in your lives through. Be blessed.
